Shantaram

I am a voracious reader and am always looking for books that touch my heart.

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts is without a doubt one of those books. The author became a heavy herion addict and as a result commited armed robberies for which he was imprisoned in Australia. After a very lucky escape he finds his way to India where among other things he sets up a clinic in a Bombay slum, falls in with the local Mafia, is imprisoned yet again in horrendous conditions, and then later takes part in the Afghan war.

What is makes this book a classic is that he writes about the human heart with wisdom, true understanding and compassion.

I thoroughly recommend it!!
